FOR THE
SAKE OF THE
CHILDREN
IMPORTANT NOTICE: PLEASE READ AND PLEASE ACT - IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE
This morning I received an e-mail from a fellow advocate. She made
a very good point. She said there does exist a
problem in this country and part of that problem is our
complacency. We are comfortable in our lives that we have
come to depend on someone else to do our dirty work. Our problems
(and the problems of children who don't have
a voice) will not go away in this manner. She has come up with a
way to force the courts to view our problems and
to quit ignoring us. She said one voice doesn't matter much, but
hundreds or even thousands will. The problems
will not go away on their own.

Here is how she proposed doing this. E-mail, snail-mail, or call people
you know
and ask them to do one simple thing -
click here and write to the Judiciary. If enough
people do this we will be heard. The claims filed under the Fourteenth
Amendment will
not get thrown out on technicalities anymore, she said. They Judiciary
will take notice
because they are elected officials, not like Judges that are appointed.
Our voices, if not
few in number, count to them. So please take a little bit of your time,
click on the link
above, and let the Judiciary know your concerns. Then spread the word.
Thank you.

INSIDE THE WORLD
OF AUTISM
Autism
is a mysterious disorder. It's something parents are
aware of, and I think it's fair to say, many of us are afraid
of it. Afraid of what autism really is, and afraid of what it
means for kids who are autistic.

GIRL'S DEATH
PROMPTS PHILLY SHAKE-UP
A 14-year old girl with cerebral palsy was left to die a
horrible death while the state
was paying
Multiethnic Behavioral Health to assist her family in her care.
The
conditions surrounding her death are unthinkable. (Click
here for main page).
What is extremely troubling is that this is on the heals of two deaths in
PA that were
brought to the attention of State Welfare Secretary, Estelle Richman, who
told Cynthia
Allen, Joey's mom, "If SummitQuest had followed policy and procedure,
your son would
still be alive."
They did not follow policy and procedure. Joey died a brutal death (click
here). In May 2006, CAICA wrote a letter to
Ms. Richman, requesting a response (click

staff has been
held accountable for these deaths. It is our hope that this child's death
will not be in vain and that something will
finally be done.

THREE
ARRESTED IN THE STABBING DEATH OF A FOSTER CHILD
Kayla, a blond, blue-eyed girl who
wanted to be a model, ran away
from a Moreno Valley group home on
Aug. 31. She was found
dead in a burned building. Three have been arrested in connection
with her death. Kayla's paternal grandmother, said the arrests would
not make up
for Kayla's suffering or her family's grief. She said her
granddaughter
should have been better protected. "I hope to God
they throw the book
at whoever did this," Wamsley said. "Maybe
now someone won't have to
know the pain we've gone through."

and avoided closure in June when it signed an agreement with state
authorities, paid $30,000 in fines, and increased staffing levels.
