MILFORD
– Debbie Clough is worried sick about her daughter, who she said
walked away last week from an adolescent treatment center in
Massachusetts.
“She hasn’t called any of her friends. There have been no
sightings,” Clough said of her 16-year-old daughter.
A court order placed Kasey Mangold in the Germaine Lawrence School
in Arlington, Mass., two weeks ago, Clough said. Mangold was
reported missing from the school at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Clough
said.“It’s night number four tonight,” Clough said Saturday.
Germaine Lawrence is a residential treatment center for troubled
adolescent girls. A staff member who answered a phone there Saturday
said the school will not confirm the names of patients and referred
the reporter to an official who would not be available until Monday.
Clough said her daughter, a Milford High School sophomore, is a
former honor student and cheerleader who had been diagnosed with
depression and bipolar disorder.
Mangold was placed at Germaine Lawrence after she stole her mother’s
car one night, and Clough brought charges against her. “I asked the
state to help her rather than lock her up,” Clough said.
Clough filed a missing person’s report with Arlington police. A
police dispatcher said Saturday that Mangold hadn’t yet been found.
The investigators who handle teen runaways wouldn’t be available
until Monday, the dispatcher said.
Not convinced police were doing enough to find her daughter, Clough
created a flier with Mangold’s photograph and the phone numbers of
Arlington police and Clough’s cell phone. Clough said she placed 300
of the fliers around the Arlington area over the weekend.
Clough said there are some discrepancies in the police missing
person’s report. The report listed Mangold as having brown hair when
her hair is actually blond, Clough said.
The report also notes that Mangold was last seen wearing jeans and a
T-shirt. However, Clough said staff at Germaine Lawrence told police
that Mangold was last seen without makeup and wearing pajama
bottoms, a T-shirt and no shoes.
Mangold is 5-foot, 4-inches and has blue eyes and a slight build.
“She could be heading back up this way,” Clough said.
Clough, who said she has full custody of Mangold, said she’s been in
contact with the girl’s father, who lives in Manchester. Clough said
she feels certain he hasn’t seen or heard from his daughter.
In an e-mail plea for help, Clough said that Mangold “has made no
contact with friends or family. She has no money or belongings. . .
. She is not street smart and perhaps naive to the Boston area and I
not only fear for her life by someone else but I am seriously
concerned she will harm herself not being on her medication.”
In a telephone interview, Clough said she’s desperate to at least
know Mangold is safe.
“I have no leads. I have nothing. No one has heard from her, and
that scares me,” Clough said. “That’s the hard part – not knowing. I
just don’t have a good feeling.”
