Police probe child death

The Corsicana Police Department is investigating the Monday death of a 16-month-old child in foster care.

Corsicana Police Sgt. Lewis Palos said an ambulance was called to a home in the 3500 block of Northpark at 12:46 p.m. Monday.

Arriving emergency personnel found the child to be unresponsive, according to Palos. The 16-month-old white male was taken by ambulance to Navarro Regional Hospital, and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Connie Mayfield.

Mayfield ordered an autopsy be performed after suspicious bruises about the head and shoulders were found, according to police reports.

The infant was one of five children that were in the foster home, all four years of age or younger. The 3-year-old brother of the deceased child also lived in the foster home. Palos said that the four other foster children have been removed from the home pending an investigation.

At press time, police had not released the names of the foster parents, or the name of the child who died.
