Here are
programs within Ventura County's Probation Agency that are partially
or fully funded by the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act. Some
of the programs involve multiple agencies.
Repeat Offender Prevention Program
Joins probation officers with
therapists and substance abuse specialists in intensive monitoring
and treatment. The program targets children younger than 15 who
exhibit risk factors associated with chronic delinquency.
Expanded Early Intervention
Probation officers provide monitoring
and services aimed at reducing the risk factors associated with
delinquency. Officers work with young, first-time offenders likely
to reoffend.
Aftercare Day Reporting
Provides a combination of highly
structured supervision, services, and parental involvement to reduce
the high failure rate and relapse usually experienced by children
coming out of custody or group home placement. Includes substance
abuse counseling, family counseling and GED tutoring.
Gang Violence Prevention
Probation and police officers and the
community-based service provider work to prevent and suppress gang
activity. The program targets youths who have court-ordered
conditions of probation that prohibit association with gang members,
and those who are at high risk of joining gangs.
Enhanced Institutional Services
Community-based, gender-specific
intervention and treatment programs for male and female youths in
custody.
Truancy Habits Reduced Increases
Vital Education
School Attendance Review Boards and
Ventura County district attorneys meet with habitual truants to
identify ways to improve attendance.
