A 15-year-old bank robber will
likely serve an undetermined amount of time at a locked residential
treatment facility in Indiana.
Hamilton County Juvenile Court
Judge Thomas Lipps ordered the sentence Thursday, but the Ladoga
Academy must first agree to take the West End girl. The placement
comes through a mental-health program and is designed to give the
girl treatment. Attorneys expect to know Monday whether she has been
accepted.
Court officials determined the
girl's aggravated robbery charge did not have a gun specification,
which would have meant a mandatory stay at an Ohio juvenile prison.
"We do know she had mental-health
issues," Lipps said. "This place has a fine reputation for
treatment, but also enough security.
"Treatment there will get her back
to being a young girl," Lipps added. The judge found many of the
girl's problems stem from hanging around with adult men.
The girl accompanied two adults to
Lima in February, where she and a man walked into Top Mark Federal
Credit Union and demanded money. The adult used a gun during the
holdup, and the teenager was aware he had it when they entered the
bank, according to police.
They drove to Chicago with $5,000,
where they bought drugs and went shopping, police said.
The teen is being sentenced in
Hamilton County under a provision that allows a child to be
sentenced in his or her home county.
