Training School Campus May Reopen

The abandoned campus of the former State Training School at Plankinton might soon be bustling again.

Department of Social Services Secretary Deb Bowman says an announcement is expected shortly about its future.

She and other state and local leaders say they can't elaborate.

The state was expected to make a decision earlier this year about which private company would run an intensive residential treatment program for juveniles at the state-owned campus.

It closed in 2001 after 14-year-old Gina Score died of heat exhaustion during a forced run in 1999.
