CAICA PRESS RELEASE

Randall Hinton Arrested

Canon City, CO (January 10, 2007) Randall Hinton, who has long history of working with troubled youth, was arrested last night. In a telephone interview with Jeff Worley, an Investigator with the Canon City Police Department in Canon City, CO, CAICA learned a search was done on the premises. According to Officer Worley, a vast majority of the students were interviewed.

Officer Worley also stated that, “Hinton was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, which is a felony because it was accomplished with the use of force. He was also arrested on multiple counts of third-degree assault and for reckless endangerment. In Colorado, that means he placed another person, in this case, at risk of serious bodily injury.”

There is an ongoing investigation.

                   Randall Hinton (Center)

This is not the first time we have heard about Randall Hinton abusing children. In a June 22, 2006, Rough Love article written by Joanne Greene of the Miami New Times, Hinton was quoted as saying, “I think I can remember Layne being pepper-sprayed more than once a day. I know he was pepper-sprayed more than two times a day. I don’t think it would have been more than three times ... and from somebody on the outside looking in, I would say it would be abusive.” (Click on link below.)

Hinton was formerly employed by Teen Help, Tranquility Bay, Carolina Springs Academy, and Academy of Dundee Ranch (which was closed due to allegations of child abuse and neglect). All of these programs were associated with the World Wide Association of Specialty Programs and Schools (WWASP aka WWASPS).
